Different types of browsers have different requirements for enabling Java support.
For some, the Java Run Time Environment (JRE) is built in. For others, you may need to go to
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
to obtain the free JRE. After you have installed the JRE, then follow the instructions provided by the linked sites to enable Java.
In some cases, you may find that your browser is already set up with Java enabled. Internet Explorer is likely to indicate that active content is blocked, or in some other way indicate that the applet has not been initiated (look at the status indication in the lower left of the browser window).
